On Saturday, around 80 area businesses will gather for the fifth annual McDonald County Business Expo, hosted by the county’s chamber of commerce.
Admission is $2 and the event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McDonald County High School, with the public invited.
“This event is to allow people in our area to realize all the businesses, goods and services, that we have available, right here in our own community for them to shop,” McDonald County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Colleen Epperson said.
In the past, Epperson said, between 1,000 to 1,500 people walk through the doors, looking at the area vendors from not only McDonald County, but also businesses in the neighboring communities and even as far away as Springfield, Mo., Arkansas and Oklahoma.
“We are excited this year, because we have a section that is going to be focusing on home improvement,” she said. “We have construction companies, guttering services, a lot of home improvement section this time.”
As people walk through the doors, they can walk around and talk to the area businesses, and get freebies such as pens, paper and other items. Epperson also noted there are giveaways.
“Every business will probably have a giveaway,” she said. “There is something given away all day long.”
The expo is a great way to have businesses get exposed to the community and, in the past, it has paid off for them.
“I think the way businesses view this is mainly, you are out in front of your public that you can educate them on what you have to offer,” Epperson said. “And that increases your business. When they are in need of something, they will probably be more apt to come shop with you after seeing you there because of the audience that we have. They have hundreds of people, potential customers, that they are able to educate about their business. Yes, it has improved their business. For instance, Dixie Chopper, Powell, who sells lawnmowers, gets a lot of business by coming and they come every year.”
The high school’s student council will serve breakfast and lunch, Epperson said.
“The expo is a great event for us, we do very well every year,” she said. “We are ready for Saturday.”
