Starting Monday and continuing through Friday, the Ohio Valley Refinery & Roadshow will be in Neosho at the Best Western Big Spring Lodge, 1810 Southern View Dr.
Times are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
During this event, local residents will have the opportunity to sit with experts and sell their items to the collectors.
According to a press release, “Collectors state $300,000 is expected to be distributed to Neosho residents this coming week for antiquities, collectibles, and gold and silver items.”
This is the first time this roadshow has come into Neosho.
“We are looking to uncover some collectibles,” said Matthew Enright, vice president of media relations with the International Collectors Association. “We are looking for everything from grandma’s class ring to swords from the Civil War, guitars, you name it, we want to see it. We like to see some of that cool stuff and obviously, we have collectors that are paying a lot of money for these collectibles, so that is what we are doing.
“We want to bring our event there for people to bring in their antiques, collectibles, jewelry, coins, whatever they may have and think is valuable and get paid for it right on the spot.”
Enright noted the event is a “100 percent free event and that there is no pressure to sell whatsoever. They can come in, find out what their stuff is worth, and I would say about 97 percent of the people who come in, they are coming into sell.”
A press release stated that nearly all coins and paper currency, vintage jewelry, war memorabilia, musical instruments and toys made prior to 1965 are highly sought after by collectors.
“Don’t clean anything, that can really hurt the value of an item,” he said.
The press release described a recent story of an Ohio woman who brought in a letter from Abraham Lincoln that she thought was a fake for more than 15 years.
“She brought it in to the show and walked out $25,000 richer after finding out it was an authentic letter,” the press release noted.
They also offer free gold and silver testing during the event.
The Ohio Valley Refinery & Roadshow has its own refinery and will also be looking to buy all types of gold, silver and platinum.
All local area businesses that deal with precious metals are encouraged to call ahead and make an appointment with one of the roadshow representatives.
There are no appointments needed for the general public to sell their items.
