The November election will not change much in the 131st District State Representative race.
The primary race brought only Republican candidates and barring a strong write-in campaign Bill Lant has won the race with nearly 66 percent of the vote.
In Newton County he had has 2,242 votes at end of the night and 3,067 total in the race, Bill Buening’s total was 1,063 and David Liveoak’s 538 votes.
“I’m a little bit numb at this point,” Lant said. “I wasn’t expecting quite as much spread as I had. It’s got me pretty dumbfounded.”
When the legislative session starts Lant said he plans to give his constituents everything he can – and then some so he can live up to their expectations.
“I have every intention of representing the people of my district to the very best of my ability,” he said.
When the session starts he plans to attend meetings and take notes on how things are done in Jefferson City.
“I think in all honesty there’s a lot of things that I’ve got to learn,” he said. “They tell me that for the first several months I just need to sit and listen and take part in as many of the caucuses as I can and find out what’s going on.”
He spent Tuesday evening with friends, family and neighbors waiting for the results a friend’s home.
“I have enjoyed minute of the past year campaigning for this,” Lant said. “I have met some of the most wonderful people, had an opportunity to visit with and become friends with people that I’d have never met otherwise. That’s probably for me one of the greatest things about the whole campaign.”
