Granby, Mo. -

In a letter to Granby Mayor Donna Fullerton and to the city council members, Richard Hartman, the city’s chief of police, has resigned his position.

“He gave me a letter last Thursday (Aug. 14) and the council met (Monday) morning at 9 a.m.,” Fullerton said. “It was a special meeting and we came out at 9:02. The resignation was effective yesterday.”

“After careful consideration, I have decided to resign my position effective on Aug. 28, 2008, at 5 p.m.,” Hartman wrote in his letter. “I made this decision after considering my future opportunity with the City of Granby, and due to another offer made to me for a chief of police position that I feel would be a better fit for my family and myself.”

Fullerton said that Hartman was going to Sawyer, Okla.

“We have already been adverting to take applications until Sept. 15,” Fullerton said.

Hartman started his duties as Granby Police Chief on March 17 of this year.

Phone messages left on Hartman’s cell phone were not returned as of press time today.
