The city of Granby is looking for new committee members to serve on the Old Mining Town Days (OMTD) event.

During Tuesday night’s Granby City Council meeting, council members were presented with the OMTD financial statement and a letter of resignation from three committee members.

According to the letter, “We the members of the OMTD committee would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Granby and everyone else who has helped support OMTD for the last two years. Without your support, we could not have had a successful celebration for the past years. Regretfully, we can no longer serve on this committee. We appreciate being given the opportunity to serve our community and leave the next people to take over this committee in good financial standing for the next year.”

The letter was signed by Patti Farmer, chairperson, Melinda Stribling and Kara Chase.

“(Patti) did a wonderful job, her and Melinda Stribling and Kara Chase, they just have other priorities that they need to take care of this time,” said Granby mayor pro-tem Carol Sparnicht.

Sparnicht noted that if someone wants to serve on the committee, they need to contact Granby City Hall.

“We are looking for anybody who would be interested in doing so since these three ladies have too much going with their personal lives to help us,” she said. “We are looking for folks to help out with that, I am looking for new ideas, even folks that do not want to help, but just have great ideas.”
OMTD is a three-day event held in Granby and is the city’s celebration of Fourth of July.
Under old business, the council heard an update from CK Construction.

During the Aug. 17 council meeting, members voted to have a contract drawn up on work to be completed by CK on the Granby Community Building. The project was to have some framework for bathrooms, stage work and drywall installed along the north wall, which serves as the stage.
“Our attorney (Jared Thomas) just has not got a contract with us and the council has decided that we are not going to do anything without a signed contract from this point on,” the mayor pro-tem said. “As soon as our attorney gets the contract, we will have them sign that and go on about it.”
However, a motion by council member Bill Cooper was made to purchase some insulation. The insulation will be used for the gym and the stage wall.

When it came time for a second, Sparnicht did, while council members RL Arnall and George Kelly voted no. With a tied vote, Sparnicht used her “mayor second vote” to break the tie and vote to purchase the insulation.

“I am going to purchase some insulation, rolled, and Granby (personnel) will be doing the (labor),” she said.

In other news, the council approved to purchase a radiator and antifreeze up to $200 for the wastewater pickup.
