Ms. Mary Anna Culkin attended Joplin Junior College, Joplin, and then graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark., with the bachelor of science in education degree.

Ms. Mary Anna Culkin attended Joplin Junior College, Joplin,  and then graduated from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark., with the bachelor of science in education degree.  
She received her master’s degree in business education from the University of Colorado.  Her career as a business education instructor included teaching at Monett High School, Monett; Joplin High School, Joplin; Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, Colo.; and the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI.
Ms. Culkin worked for IBM as an Educational Services Representative in Dallas, Texas. Leaving Dallas after five years, she moved to Northern Virginia and taught at Northern Virginia Community College.  She then started a career in the Federal Government where she worked at the National Institutes of Health, the Civil Service Commission, now the Office of Personnel Management; the General Accounting Office; the Patent and Trademark Office; and the Department of State.
After retiring, she became an independent consultant and conducted a variety of courses for Government agencies and the private sector.
Ms. Culkin was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and served as an officer for a number of years.  She also served on committees for the Maryland State P.E.O. Sisterhood.  In addition, Ms. Culkin did volunteer work at the Washington National Cathedral serving on the Altar Guild and working in the National Cathedral Association’s office doing secretarial work.  She served on the Altar Guild at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Chevy Chase, MD.
She retired to Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, MD., in 2000.
Ms. Culkin has no surviving family, but was considered a family member by countless friends and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 23, 2017  at the Guild Chapel, Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, MD.
