Howard Gene Keeling passed from this world in the early morning on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Mo., at the age of 85 years.

Howard Gene Keeling passed from this world in the early morning on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Mo., at the age of 85 years.
He was born Aug. 6, 1932 in Fairview, the son of Audie “A.L.” and Sylvia “Juanita” (Harris) Keeling.
Howard graduated from Fairview High School. He then attended Southwest Missouri State College, and later obtained his degree from Draughon School of Business. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He married his loving wife, Twila Jean (Long) Keeling, a school teacher, on June 10, 1961.
Together they raised three children on their beef farm in Clever, Mo., while Howard also worked as a bookkeeper for Production Credit Association for more than three decades. During his 32 years with PCA, Howard was an extremely devoted and vital employee, never having taken a single day of sick leave or extended vacation.
Howard was an active and dedicated member of Clever United Methodist Church, where he served as Treasurer for many years. In his later years, he enjoyed attending and rejoicing in the music at Sac River Cowboy Church. Howard also had a vast knowledge and appreciation for classic automobiles and enjoyed sharing that knowledge with his kids and grandkids.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Twila; sister, Marylin Caldwell; sister, Patricia Tresler; and brother, Wesley Keeling.
He is survived by his brother, Allen Keeling and wife Lavoena, Neosho; sister, JoAnn Rotgers, Republic, Mo.; son, Ronald Keeling and wife Amy, and their children Brett, Ashtin and Nolan of Clever; daughter, Janice Burger and husband Bryan, and their children Caleb and Olivia of Scott City, Mo.; daughter, Jennifer Porter and husband Greg, and their children Adonijah, Avayonna, Feinoxx, and Ashlynn of Clever; and a host of family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, in Meadors Funeral Home, Clever. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oc. 18, 2017, also in the funeral home, with Rev. James Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Dice Cemetery, Fairview. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairview High School Reunion Committee.
