Velda L. Wood, 90, Granby, entered into rest on June 6, 2018 at Medicalodge in Neosho, following an extended illness.  
Velda was born June 25, 1927 in Granby, the daughter of Ted E. and Betty L. (Vance) Hatcher. She was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Granby High School as salutatorian of her class. She worked at the Newton County Collector’s office and worked beside her husband on the family farm.  She was the recipient of the Silver Service Award, awarded by the Missouri Lt. Governor for her volunteer work with Alzheimer’s; she was a former member of the Newton County Extension Service and was an avid antique tractor enthusiast.  She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.  

Velda and Ernest Harold Wood were married on June 16, 1945 in Granby and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2005.  
She is survived by three children, Gene Wood and wife, Cindy, St. Charles, Mo.; Judy Dorris and husband, Jerry, Sturtevant, Wis., and Mary Jane Flint and husband, Barry, Granby; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.  
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Reta Fullerton and grandson, Adam Wood.  
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Hillcrest Church of Christ, Danny Boggs will officiate. Interment will follow in the Hazel Green Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Tony Flint, Casey Flint, Jeremy Dorris, Bryceton Dorris, Doug Coberley and Bobby Stafford and honorary pallbearers are David Brack and Jon Berry.  
The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service from 1 p.m.  until service time at the church.
