Robert Weems Barnes, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., died on Friday, April 18, 2008, in the Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark.

He was born on Feb. 19, 1921, in Goodman to Robert F. and Lillie (Pogue) Barnes. He attended public school in Anderson and Neosho before graduating from Westminster College at Fulton.

He married Ruth Shartel at Neosho on Dec. 28, 1942, and after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, he was in business in Neosho and Sallisaw, Okla., before retiring to Bella Vista in 1981.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Alice Barnes, in 2000.

Surviving is a daughter, Marty Barnes Cornell of Bartlesville, Okla.

Cremation is planned and graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday in the Shartel family lot in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Neosho, with Pastor Benny Boling officiating.
Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark.
