Gene N. Farmer was born Feb. 21,1922, in Granby, to Orville and Effe (Hobson) Farmer.

He went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2008, at his home in Bakersfield, Calif.

After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he went to Delano, Calif., in 1946 to work for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, where he worked until his retirement.

He married Mildred Wren in Delano, at the age of 25.

Gene enjoyed visiting friends and family in Missouri, spending time with his family and was an avid gamesman and sports fan. He was loved and admired by family and friends and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years; a sister, Dorothy Bentone; and two borthers, Alvin Farmer and Morris Farmer.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Steve Force, and Janette and Steve Wilson, Bakersfield; four sisters, Wilma Lasiter, Mildred Caldwell, and Bobbie Young, Neosho, and Joan Sanders, Keene, Texas; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gene was a decorated veteran having won three Bronze Stars, and was a lifetime supporter of our Armed Forces.

Full military honors were bestowed during graveside services on the Hill of Valor at Hillcrest Memorial Park, where he was laid to rest on Wednesday, May 7, 2008.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield, Calif.
