Mr. Joseph Raymond Brodie, 90, Goodman, departed this life on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at his home.
Joseph entered this life on Dec. 30, 1918, in Jane, one of 12 children born to the late Grover Wayne and Linda Faye (Arnold) Brodie. He was a lifelong resident of Goodman.
On Dec. 28, 1941, in Pineville, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Louise Buzzard and to this union four sons were born. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II in the 203rd Houn’ Daug Division. Throughout his life, he worked in the field of heavy equipment operating. He helped build the Stockton Dam in Stockton, Mo., and Highway 71 from Anderson to Pineville. He retired at the age of 62. He enjoyed raking hay for his family and friends and did so until the young age of 84. In his later years, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch, rocking and or sleeping in his favorite chair. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Joseph was a member of the Goodman Full Gospel Church and the Goodman American Legion Post #479.
His parents and five siblings preceded him in death.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Brodie of the home; four sons, Darrel Brodie and wife, Lil, Bronson, Texas, Everette Brodie and wife, Jan, Stark City, Larry Brodie and wife, Jeanette, Goodman, and Johnny Brodie and wife, Ramona, also of Goodman; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jim Brodie and wife, Jeanette, Pharr, Texas, Jack Brodie and wife, Sue, Neosho, Lee Brodie and wife, Virginia, Seneca, and John Brodie and wife, Betty, Raytown, Mo.; two sisters, Dorothy Cantrell, Neosho, and Beatrice Vanderbilt, Frontenac, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Nancy Brodie, Neosho; a brother-in-law, John Proctor, Goodman; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Brodie are 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes, with Pastor Mark Sumler officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the Howard Cemetery in Goodman. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Calvin Wilson, Bob Sales, Kenny Martin, Logan Sumler, Wayne Atkins and Adam Wimpey. Lloyd Wilson will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral chapel.
