Jewell Francis Flaxbeard, 89, Stark City, passed away at 5:40 p.m., Wed, July 9, 2008 at her home.  She was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Sarcoxie, Mo., to John and Bessie (Baird) Smith.

Jewell was a lifelong area resident and co-owner of Jesse and Jewell’s grocery store in Pioneer, Mo., for many years.  She was a member of the Pioneer Ladies Auxiliary Club; a gifted quilter; and an avid sports fan.  She gave her heart to the Lord at an early age and lived her life as a disciple for Him.

Jewell married Jesse Willard Flaxbeard, Oct. 9, 1938 in Pineville, Mo. He preceded her in death, Oct. 13, 2004.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Dave Meyer, Stark City; four grandchildren, Deana Foster, Darlene Koncak, Melissa Strickland and Brad Steiffens; 10 great- grandchildren, Whitney Rogers, Jeremiah Hayworth, Olivia Clark, Caitlin Waddle, Kale Foster, Karman Foster, Jessica Koncak, Alexandra Koncak, Jodi Steiffens and David Steiffens; and two great great grandchildren, Kaden and Kiara Rogers.

The body has been taken for cremation and a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 15 at Diamond Cemetery, Diamond, Mo., with Charlie Brown officiating.
