Anna Lea Hughes, 81, Wheaton, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, in her home.
She was born July 19, 1926, in Rocky Comfort, the daughter of Earl and Marie (Sampson) Lamberson.
On June 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Floyd Hughes, who survives.
She is also survived by one son, Rodney Hughes and his wife, Kaye, Cassville; a daughter-in-law, Vicky Kilpatrick, Benton, La.; five grandchildren, Joshua, Emily Jo, Karen, Bubba and Mary Ann; seven great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Zach, Hunter, Keeli, Garett, Travis and Trey and two more great grandchildren on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Randy Hughes, in 1982 and one brother, Jim Lamberson, in 1983.
Anna received her education at Wheaton, where she graduated from high school. She attended two years at SMS in Springfield, and then taught school at Butterfield for a while and later at Westview School in Neosho. From 1949 until 1978, she and Floyd owned and operated a drug store known as Wheaton Sundries. For 30 years, she worked for the postal service in Powell, Stella and Rocky Comfort and was postmaster in Wheaton, retiring in 1990. After her retirement, she worked for McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton.
She was a member of Wheaton First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, United Methodist Women and Wheaton Senior Citizens.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, in Wheaton First United Methodist Church, under direction of McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Rev. Steve Martin and Rev. Roger McKee will conduct the services. Burial will be in Rocky Comfort Cemetery, Rocky Comfort.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton.
