Inez Gilbert, 88, Neosho, died Aug. 23, 2010, at St. John’s Hospital in Joplin, following a lengthy illness.  

Mrs. Gilbert was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Blue Tip, Ark., the daughter of William Otto and Mary Elvina (Boswell) Chilton. Following the death of her parents, she was raised in an orphanage until her uncle, Roscoe ‘Doc’ Boswell, took her into his home. She moved to the area in 1939 from Baxter Springs, Kan., and had worked as a seamstress at Big Smith and retired from the sewing department at La-Z-Boy Midwest.  She was a member of Silver Moon Full Gospel Church.  

Inez and Alvin Arnold Gilbert were married on Dec. 30, 1941, at Neosho and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1960.  

She is survived by two children, Jerry Gilbert and wife, Kay, Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Barbara O’Brien and husband, Bart, Anderson; three sisters, Coral Lee Gates, Kansas City, Mo., Wanda Gilbert, Seneca, and June Adams, Seneca; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.  

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry Gilbert, Jr.; a brother, Albert Boswell; and two sisters, Myrtle Kissel and Roberta Miller.  

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Rev. Fred Franks and Dr. Randy Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Neosho Memorial Park Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Jim Gilbert, Randy Gilbert, Ron Gilbert, Jack Gilbert, Bill Young and Dennis Gilbert.

Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho from 9 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday and the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
