Charlie Jasper Bruton, 100, of Neosho, died at 1 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, at Freeman Neosho Hospital after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 12, 1908, in Thogmartin County, Texas, to Robert and Willie (Shaw) Bruton.

As a small child, Mr. Bruton, moved with his family to Hale Center, Texas, where he grew up and lived until age 38, when he moved to Neosho. He served in World War II in the Signal Corps as a teletype instructor. He was a carpenter, working for Branham Brothers of Neosho, for many years. He was the builder for the Jerry Klepinger Home, which was featured in Better Homes and Gardens in the late 1950s. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and Carpenter’s Union. He was also a member of the Swars Prairie Baptist Church.

He married Nadene Nunn. Feb. 2, 1946 in Seneca. She survives.

Additional survivors include 8 nieces and nephews and their spouses: Virginia and Barry Barnard of Missouri City, Texas; Betty Sue Jones of Denton, Texas; Carol Jane and Johnathan Graves of Kerrville, Texas; Bob Hewett of Amarillo, Texas; Ron and Marti Nunn of Miami, Okla.; Vickie and Ronny Wade of Claremore, Okla.;  Jeff and Stephanie Nunn of Goodman; and Rhonda and Donnie Percival of Seneca; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mattie Carrell and Ruby Hewett.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Clark Chapel of Memories with Dr. Jerry Seigel officiating. Interment will follow in the Swars Prairie Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Hewett, Ron Nunn, Jeff Nunn, Donnie Percival, Stephen Hastings, Matthew Percival, and Adam Max Percival. Full military gravesite rites will be performed at the cemetery. Viewing is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday. The family will be at the home of Sam Nunn, 411 W. Hill St., Neosho.
