Geneva White, 95, Lanagan, was called to Heaven at 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Freeman Neosho Hospital in Neosho, following an illness.

Geneva began her journey on April 29, 1913 in Ellsworth County, Kan., one of two daughters born to the late Roy and Hettie (Stamps) Helmer. She moved to Lanagan in 1957, coming from Ellsworth County.

She married the love of her life, Virgil M. White at Lyons, Kan. in July 1937 and to this union two sons were born.

Geneva was dedicated to her profession as an elementary school teacher, teaching for more than 30 years in McDonald County. She was also well known for her quilting, knitting, crocheting and her many handcrafts she would make. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Virgil M. White, in January of 1997.

Geneva is survived by her sons,  Virgil D. White and wife, Sharon, Sun Valley, Calif., Lee White and wife, Lynn, Cornelius, N.C.; a sister, Charlene Bailey, Ellsworth; four grandchildren, Scott, Shelby, Dana, Regina; four great-grandchildren, Heather, Haley, Harper and Paige; along with many other relatives, friends and neighbors who will dearly miss Geneva and her kind ways.

Funeral service for Geneva White will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Walker-Dowd Funeral Home Chapel in Anderson.

Speakers will be Gary Mitchell, Lee White and Virgil White. Ray Mitchell, Carl Warren, Jason Hackett, Tyler Dueker, Kenny Stevens and Emory Mitchell will honor Geneva’s life by serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Monday at the Walker-Dowd Funeral Home Chapel, from 6  until 8 p.m. The family will receive friends at this time.

Memorial contributions in loving memory of Geneva may be given to the Lanagan Cemetery fund in Lanagan, in care of the funeral home.
