Arvilla Hope Boyd, 99, Joplin, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Freeman West Hospital, following a short illness.
She was born April 19, 1912, in Bell Center, Mo., to John Wellington Fields and Lucy Jane (Mason) Fields.
Mrs. Boyd was a lifelong Neosho area resident and a member of High Street Christian Church, in Neosho.
She worked at Big Smith Brothers Manufacturing as an inspector, retiring after several years, and also did alterations for McGinty’s department store. She was a member of Amalgamated Garment Workers Union of America.
Arvilla and Freeman Leonard Boyd were married July 23, 1932.
He preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1988.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Freeman Leonard Boyd, Jr.
She is survived by a son, J. D. Boyd and wife, Artie Lucille Boyd, Neosho; a daughter, Joy Huffman and husband, David Huffman, Joplin; a daughter-in-law, Jo Boyd; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, at Memorial Park Cemetery, south of Neosho, with Arvilla’s granddaughter, Chaplain Brenda Conyers, officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday.
