Troy Lavere Bowers, 83, Neosho, died June 22, 2009, at Freeman Neosho Hospital. 

He was born Sept. 6, 1925, in McNatt, in McDonald County, to the late Orval Leroy Bowers and Cora Ava (Francisco) Bowers.

Troy moved from there in January 1942 to Neosho and finished high school in the class of 1943. He was inducted into the Army in September 1944, and was sent to Europe and to the 71st Infantry. He was the recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, two Companion Stars, and the Bronze Star. He was discharged in August 1946.

Troy married Ruth A. Mason, Oct. 6, 1947, in Neosho. 

He farmed until 1954, and then went to work at the disciplinary barracks at Fort Crowder, then worked at Rocketdyne and Teledyne, until his retirement in April 1988. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Neosho since 1952.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Gene. 

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a sister, Wilda Arthur, Joplin; a daughter, Janice and husband, Rex Daniels, Farmington, Ark.; a son, Richard and wife, Beverly Sue, Neosho; a grandson, Brian and wife, Krystal Daniels; three granddaughters, Christi Daniels, Fayetteville, Ark., Tracy and husband, Carson Guest, Neosho, and Heather Bowers, Neosho; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday at IOOF Cemetery, Neosho. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesday.
