Lorene Foster, 87, Neosho, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Freeman West Hospital, following a short illness. 

She was born Sept. 10, 1921, St. Joseph, Mo., to Lewis and Ann (Friley) Clutter.

Lorene Foster was the only daughter of Anna and Lewis Clutter. She grew up in the Cameron, Mo. area. Although she was the youngest student in her graduating class, she graduated valedictorian and class poet.

As a young woman, she met Avery Foster, and after a short courtship, they were married.
Lorene, Avery, and their baby daughter, Connie, lived on the Navy base in San Diego for a while during World War II. Lorene finished out the war in Kansas City, where she worked as a taxi cab driver. After the war, the couple lived in the Kansas City area and had two more daughters, Susanna and Ruth.

Lorene was also an accomplished pianist. She loved her career as a piano teacher. She retired from teaching piano in 1987.

She loved to travel. She was very proud to have visited every state, and several countries. She was particularly fond of road trips and cruises.

Lorene was a devoted member of the Carthage Restoration Branch, where she served as Women’s Leader and pianist. She was a close friend to many, a wife, mother, and grandmother. She has an entire community of friends and family who dearly love and miss her.

Survivors include daughters Ruth Foster, Connie McClure and husband Jennings Louk, and Susanna Smith and husband Gary Smith. She also had six grandchildren and 12 great-
grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, at Clark Chapel of Memories, Neosho, with Larry Coose and Kenny Coose officiating. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon - 4 p.m., today and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time, Monday.
