It's Friday the 13th. Are you concerned about the date? People have pointed to this as an unlucky date for a long time. There is actually a scientific name for this fear. The word is "paraskevidekatriaphoba." It comes from two Greek words, "Paraskei," which means Friday and from "dekatreis," which is "thirteenth."

According to legend, superstition about the day may have come from the story of the Last Supper, when 13 people were in the Upper Room, just a day before Jesus's death on the cross. When I get to heaven, I will ask Jesus about that—if I don't forget.
By that time, I doubt I will even care.

It looks like it will be a see-saw fall with temperatures bouncing up and down. Maybe someday, fall will settle in for good and then winter will come. I hear predictions of a cold winter. I don't always follow predictions but then who knows?
As I write this, we need rain. Our trees and shrubs are wilting from thirst.

They could use some rain in California, especial in the Napa Valley. Wildfires are out of control today and the forecast isn't good.
Ronald James, son of Larry and Linda, had a business meeting scheduled for the area last week. Then the fires broke out and the meeting place was changed to San Francisco which isn't far from Santa Rosa, the heart of the Napa Valley.
Ronald called his parents and said it was frightening with smoke and ash everywhere. The fires caused much damages with hundreds of burned-out homes and businesses, including several of the more than 600 wineries.
Many of the famous Napa grapes are hanging on vines, ready for harvest. Grape growers are hoping to save their valuable crops and will need a lot of help getting their grapes cut and processed.
I hope for the best.

As the weather turns cooler, we will soon see waterfowl headed south. I love seeing them spread out across the sky. Only geese fly in a V formation and the greatest number seem to be Canada geese. There are several species of Canada geese but the most common are the big ones which almost everyone recognizes,
Canada geese are beautiful but are sometimes a nuisance when they congregate on gold courses and city parks.
So keep an ear out for the honks and quacks of geese and duck and keep an eye out for them as they make their way south.
