The familiar phrase, "The Circus is Coming to Town," will soon be happening here in Neosho.
Next Thursday, Oct. 19, the Kelly Miller Circus will be making a stop in our town of Neosho, at Morse Park for two shows, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.. Visit their website at www.kellymillercircus.com for info.
As a child, my parents took my brother, Greg and I to the circus. I don't know how many circuses that we attended, but they were a fun thing to do. Fast forward to my adult years and working at the Neosho Daily News, I have had the opportunity to cover circuses. So with that in mind, one of the best circuses is coming to town.
Seeing these circus performers performing their acts is unbelievable. I am still amazed on how they do it. In the past, I have spoken to trapeze artists to even clowns and even to an elephant trainer. They definitely know their stuff.
The circus is a neat thing to take your children, grandchildren and even friends to.
There is nothing like sitting under the big top and seeing the animals doing their tricks from the tigers jumping through hoops to elephants standing on circus box or even dogs climbing stairs and sliding down a slide.
Then there are the trapeze artists who work along way up off of the ground. A few years ago, I spoke to Franchesa Cavallini, a trapeze artist with Carson & Barnes Circus.
I had asked her what a trapeze artist does and she said, “We basically fly, we go on this bar and we let go, do tricks and somebody else catches us. Then we do a little swing and go back and forth.”
I don’t think that you would ever see me “flying” from bar to bar as a trapeze artist does, however, it is a neat to see how they do their acts.
Another aspect of the circus that I enjoy is the walking around and seeing the animals before the circus begins. There are times that children will get the opportunity to ride an elephant or a camel or even pet a horse.
So, if you are looking for something fun and exciting for the entire family to do on Thursday to the circus at Morse Park.
I think that you will all enjoy the circus.
