One of my nieces brought up the question of how many direct descendants have come from her grandparents (my parents). She offhandedly guessed about 70. So I took a survey on the family Facebook page.

One of my nieces brought up the question of how many direct descendants have come from her grandparents (my parents). She offhandedly guessed about 70. So I took a survey on the family Facebook page.
I asked that someone from each person in my generation to report for their line. When everyone reported in, the best count we got was 97, with one baby very much on the way.
Actually, for a couple who bore 11 children as my parents did, that isn't very many, but it is still growing as great-grandchildren are now marrying and giving birth.
How many descendants are there from your parents?

A big salute to Jeff Messens who retired last week. Jeff has been at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery for many years. He says he has no retirement plans but will just take things as they come. I've known Jeff for years and I know the staff will miss him and the Friends group as well. I'm sure he will find plenty of things to do.

While watching Billy Graham's funeral last week, I was very moved because Rev. Graham was a big part of my Christian conversion and part of my moral upbringing. I never saw him in person but I felt I knew him.
All the speakers at the service were inspirational. His daughter, Ruth, was especially powerful with her story of driving back home after feeling she had embarrassed or shamed her parents. But her father was waiting for her at the end of the long driveway. He hugged her warmly and said, "Welcome Home."
Being raised a Southern Baptist, son Franklin didn't let the guests get away without hearing an altar call.
The television network I watched had some anchor people talk about the funeral when it was over. One of the anchors talked about Ruth's "welcome home" story and said during that talk, there wasn't a dry eye on the couch where they sat.
It was a great service and I thank those networks who chose to broadcast the entire funeral. I personally was re-dedicated.

The weather is getting warmer and there are flowers and green grass all around us. I never got the final total of all the rain we received in February, but I heard it was more than eight inches. I don't how much more we will get this spring but as usual, I hope we don't use all our quota this early. We always need rain in July, August and September. We can always hope for late summer rains, but in the end, we get what we get.
