Aug. 16 was the magic date when students returned to classes at Neosho Christian Schools.

On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to talk to Lawrence Sanders, the school’s principal and superintendent, about the beginning of the school year and the future of the school.

“Right now, we are at 85 students,” Sanders said. “That is an increase over last year. We have one student that is going to start on Monday. We feel like we are growing pretty good.”

Sanders was pleased with the beginning of school this year.

“We have a really good first week of school, everybody is excited, everyone came in with a really good attitude,” he said. “We had a real good beginning.”

The school teaches everything from a Christian perspective.

“We try to instill the teaching of Christ in everything that we do, somehow,” he said. “We use quite a bit of material that is Christian-based as well.”

But the school also has to teach other subjects such as math.

“We are accredited through the National Christian Schools Association, so we have standards through graduation very similar to public schools,” Sanders said. “We have to have the English, the history, the math, foreign language, the arts.”

The school serves kindergarteners through 12th grade.

Sanders also noted the school is gearing up for some field trips.

“We have several field trips planned,” he said. “Field trips planned to the Corn Maize, to Shank Farm for the lower grades, and we are working on a trip to Wildcat Glades.”

The school is also planning for their annual Labor of Love Auction set for in October. So, students at the Neosho Christian School, enjoy your time learning and taking field trips to the various spots in Southwest Missouri.
