A city property tax for Neosho. An option to reject in Missouri some aspects of the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act. A chance to decide who your November candidates will be for U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, State Auditor, State Representative, Newton County Presiding Commissioner and Newton County Circuit Court Clerk. And that’s not even including all of the McDonald County races.
Tuesday’s ballot is chock full of important decisions for voters to make.
Even if you don’t normally vote in primary elections, you might want to consider voting in this one. In some of the races, the winner will face no opposition, other than write-in contenders, in November’s general election. In those cases — which include Newton County’s two main State Representative Districts, the 130th and the 131st — November’s general election winner will, by default, actually be decided on Tuesday.
And then there is Neosho’s $1 per $100 of assessed valuation property tax option. To clarify, that would be a tax on all real and personal property within the city limits of Neosho. Unlike nearly all other towns and cities in the area, Neosho has not levied a property tax since 1997.
It needs only a simple majority to pass. Whichever way that vote goes will decide Neosho’s path for years to come.
Tuesday is a big day. Tuesday will determine much of our future.
Please, get out and vote.
