Phillips Gomez’s two goals sparked Crowder to four goals in the second period and the ‘Riders took a 5-0 lead into the third period en route to a 5-1 win over their guests from Texas.
Leonardo Mueller — a fan favorite last season during Crowder’s Region 16 playoff run — started the scoring 5 minutes, 56 seconds into the match with a penalty kick goal.
The next 30 minutes were all Crowder and could have produced a score larger than 5-0.
Gomez netted the first two goals of the period, his first four minutes in off a pass from Humberto Cruz, a returning all-Region 16 selection who broke the Crowder record for assists in a season last season.
Gomez scored on an unassisted goal 13 minutes later.
Then, Winder Pessoa and Dani Perez exchanged goals and assists to close out the Crowder scoring.
The Fury scored its only goal late in the 90-minute match.
Crowder returns to the friendly pitch of Roughrider Soccer Field for a Saturday scrimmage against NAIA Evangel. Former Crowder player Tanner Sevon is a member of the Crusaders.
