SPRINGFIELD — Third verse, same as the first two.
The Crowder Roughriders won their third straight scrimmage with a 2-0 win over Evangel on Saturday. The ‘Riders outscored their first three scrimmage foes 12-1.
After a scoreless first period (30 minutes) and 15 minutes of the second period, Winder Pessoa and Phillips Gomez teamed up to break the ‘Riders into the scoring column.
Pessoa took a Gomez pass and netted the ball for a 1-0 advantage.
Late in the scrimmage, Gomez stole the ball from a defender and broke away for a 2-0 score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Ost — a returning all-Region 16 selection — preserved the shutout with a save in the final minutes.
Crowder and Evangel were originally scheduled to play at Roughrider Soccer Field, but soggy field conditions caused the teams to move the scrimmage to Evangel.
Crowder closes out its preseason schedule Wednesday on the road against Oklahoma Wesleyan (6 p.m.) and Saturday on the road against Southwest Baptist (2 p.m.).
The ‘Riders open their season August 24 on the road against Eastern Oklahoma (5 p.m.). Crowder and Eastern Oklahoma did not play each other last season.
