CARTHAGE — The Neosho Wildcats fell to 0-2 on the young season with a 2-1 defeat Tuesday to the Carthage Tigers at the Tigers’ brand new David Haffner Stadium.

There’s some amazing numbers from this match — Carthage took 17 shots overall, 11 on goal, took seven corner kicks, and possessed the ball for 54 minutes, 8 seconds of a 80-minute match.
Neosho senior goalkeeper Hank Selig made nine saves for the Wildcats. Selig made seven of them in a scoreless first half.
The teams scored their goals in a nearly 17-minute portion of the second half.
In the 57th minute, Carthage’s Maturino opened the scoring.
In the 67th minute, Neosho’s Bryan Perez tied it up with a kick past the Carthage goalie.
In the final 13 minutes of the match, Neosho enjoyed three shots — one by Diego Vargas and two free kicks by Hunter Gillam and Uriel Nava, respectively.
Maturino gave the Tigers the lead in the 74th minute.
The Wildcats — 0-2 overall, 0-1 Central Ozark Conference Large — returned to action Thursday on the road against the Nixa Eagles.
Tuesday night marked the first of seven straight games away from home, including COC Large matches against Nixa, Carl Junction, and Republic, as well as three tournament games at Parkview.
