Chaney Platner homered for one of her two hits and drove in three runs, Grace Johnson doubled and drove in three runs, while Mekaylee Beard collected a pair of hits and Mikayla French tripled and scored a pair of runs.
In that five-run sixth, Johnson hit a bases-clearing double, Platner hit a RBI single, and Beard hit a RBI single, all three run-producing hits in a row.
In the circle, Beard earned the win, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits over six innings. She struck out two and walked one.
Seneca — 3-6 on the season with the benefit of having played eight tournament games already this season — returns to action today at home against Big 8 Conference rival Cassville. The Lady Indians then host another Big 8 rival — McDonald County — on Thursday.
Seneca finished 1-2 overall in pool competition — losing 5-3 to Fairland and 12-4 to defending champion Verdigris with a 3-2 win over Adair breaking the Lady Indians’ five-game losing streak.
In the win over Adair, Johnson drove in a pair of runs and the pair of Adron Durman and Platner each collected a pair of hits. Durman crossed home plate for two of Seneca’s runs.
Beard earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs (both earned) on seven hits over six innings. Beard struck out five and walked four.
Seneca and Fairland did all their scoring in two half-innings and Fairland’s five in the first held up over Seneca’s three in the third.
Johnson again drove in two of Seneca’s three runs and Durman, Chelsea Beville, and Platner each scored a run. Durman picked up a pair of stolen bases.
Beville took the loss, allowing five runs (one earned) on three hits over four innings, striking out three and walking four. The Lady Indians also committed five errors in addition to the free passes.
Verdigris exploded for seven runs in the second and five in the fifth.
Beard drove in three runs for the Lady Indians and had a pair of the team’s six hits. Platner added two hits — including a double — and one RBI. Durman, Beville, Johnson, and Platner each scored.
Beville took the loss, credited for 12 runs (10 earned) on 13 hits over five innings. She struck out one and walked five.
