The Crowder Roughriders have not suffered back-to-back losses this season and they continued that trend Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Cowley County at Roughrider Soccer Field.

The 'Riders broke the scoreless stalemate when Winder Pessoa took Humberto Cruz's pass and put one past Cowley goalkeeper Joao Romeu in the 65th minute.

Sophomore goalie Daniel Ost and the Crowder defense earned their third shutout of the season and second in a row at home, both against Kansas schools coached by former players of Crowder head coach Brad Smith. Smith coached Neosho County's Rafael Simmons at Crowder and Cowley's Roberto Dos Santos for the Sioux City Breeze in the early 1990s.

Crowder improved to 4-3-1 overall and 4-2 at home. The 'Riders return to the road Saturday for a Region 16 contest against State Fair. State Fair enters the match 5-3 on the season, fresh off a 4-2 win over fellow Region 16 foe MCC-Blue River.

Crowder owns a 1-2 mark in Region 16 matches, with losses against East Central (3-1) and St. Louis (3-0), teams a combined 17-1 on the season. St. Louis just moved up four spots to No. 2 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll released on Tuesday.
