REPUBLIC — On the day the seeds for the Class 4, District 12 softball tournament were officially released, the teams who played for last season's district title met in Republic.

Republic defeated the defending district champion McDonald County 7-0 on Thursday.

Republic pitcher A.J. Fenske, who's had some big cleats to fill after the graduation of Rachel Rook, blanked the Lady Mustangs on just a pair of hits.

Meanwhile, offensively, Republic scored two runs in the first, one in the second and fourth, and three in the sixth.
Rita Santillan and Kylie Helm each had the only hits against Fenske, while Helm, Maddie Colvin, and Kenzie Stephens did manage to work walks.

Ally Stolte homered and Megan Thorne doubled for Republic, with Thorne and Julie Higgins each driving in two runs.

Republic improved to 17-8, while McDonald County dropped to 15-9 entering play in the Carthage Tournament.
