NEVADA — Seneca senior Maggie Moore's 7-over par 79 score Monday at the Frank E. Peters Golf Course earned her a third state tournament qualification over her distinguished prep career.

A district champion, Moore just missed adding sectional champion to her senior year dossier. Springfield Catholic's Kayla Pfitzner edged Moore by a stroke in Class 1, Sectional 2 play.

Moore and Pfitzner were clearly the best golfers Monday, with Purdy's Zoe Brown four strokes behind Moore.

Logan-Rogersville earned team sectional honors with a collective 360 score, beating Mount Vernon by 22 strokes.

Only six Class 1 golfers Monday topped Moore's score: Cape Girardeau Notre Dame's Allison Bray at 1-over, Cape Girardeau Notre Dame's Sarah Bell 2-over, Pembroke Hill's India Gaume 4-over, Eldon's Kassidy Hull 5-over, Visitation Academy's Ashton Sinak 6-over, and Pfitzner.

Class 1's state tournament will be a two-day extravaganza Monday and Tuesday at the  par-71 Columbia Country Club.

Moore will be visiting her third different city in as many state trips, after Joplin two seasons ago and near Jefferson City last season.

Last season, Moore finished in a tie for 42nd with a pair of 95s adding up to a composite 190. Notre Dame's Bell won at 5-over 146.
Moore finished tied for 46th two seasons ago at 189, but she did shoot her best score at state in the first round in Joplin with an 84.

All signs point toward an improved showing for Moore this season.
