MONETT — It’s safe to say the Cassville Lady Wildcats had the East Newton Lady Patriots’ number this season.

They also say that it’s difficult to beat the same team three times in the same season.

Cassville proved the first saying true and the second one false by earning a 6-0 win Thursday night over East Newton in the Class 3, District 12 tournament.

Offensively, Cassville scored one run in the first, one in the second, three in the third, and one in the fifth, while East Newton managed a mere three hits against Cassville pitcher Josie Lone.

Lone allowed singles to East Newton seniors Emily Mojica, Brynne Smith, and Randi Werries, and balanced eight strikeouts against three walks.

Cassville committed no errors and turned a couple of always momentum-killing double plays.

Natalie Oxendine took the loss for the Lady Patriots, allowing six runs (all earned) on 11 hits over six innings. She struck out two and walked two.

Lone supported herself with a pair of hits and a solo home run. Kaylee Reibert, Trinity Ewing, and Adrien Lee each had a pair of hits for the Lady Wildcats. Lone, Reibert, Josi Rose, Ewing, Lee, and Hallie Walker each had RBI.

East Newton won a school record 15 games this season and finished with a 15-13 mark, with nearly a quarter of those losses coming against Cassville.
