RIVERTON, Kan. — The numbers for Monday’s game between the Diamond Wildcats and the Riverton Rams truly stick out like a sore thumb.
Diamond took a 5-3 loss to Riverton and despite a 10-3 advantage for the Wildcats over the Rams, six errors hurt Diamond deeply. Riverton committed no errors.
Riverton gained a 2-0 lead with two runs in the first, then Diamond went back ahead with one in the fourth and two in the fifth before Riverton scored three in the sixth.
Noah Hubbard, Logan Brock, and Ben Moreland combined for seven of the Wildcats’ 10 hits — Hubbard with three and Brock and Moreland two each.
Hubbard knocked a pair of doubles.
Christian Maturino, Hunter Russow, and Cameron Addington rounded out the Wildcats’ hits.
Maturino, Brock, and Hubbard each crossed home plate for the Wildcats.
Trey Marbough took the loss, allowing five runs (all unearned) on one hit over 5 1/3 innings and he struck out five and walked three. Moreland allowed no runs on two hits over the final 2/3 and he struck out two and walked none.
Diamond fell to 1-3 on the season.
