GOLDEN CITY — The Golden City Eagles and the Diamond Wildcats combined for 26 runs on 22 hits during their Spring River Valley Conference battle Monday.
Golden City scored three runs in the first, seven in the second, one in the third, and four in the fourth for all the Eagles’ runs, then Diamond plated two in the second, two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and finally five in the sixth, just not enough production on the scoreboard for the guests.
Five different Wildcats enjoyed multi-hit games with Trey Marbough, Hunter Russow, Christian Maturino, Logan Brock, and Cameron Addington each responsible for two hits. Hunter Renfro, Noah Hubbard, and Ben Moreland each had one. Addington, Brock, and Maturino each doubled.
Moreland drove in three runs, Marbough and Brock each had two, and Renfro, Hubbard, and Addington each had one RBI.
Brock crossed home plate three times, while Maturino scored two runs and six different players scored one run.
On the bases, Brock and Marbough each stole four bases, while Hubbard and Russow each swiped two bases and Maturino, Moreland, and Renfro were not left out in the Wildcats’ 15 stolen bases.
The stat that hurt Diamond was four errors, the only errors committed in the contest.
Golden City won despite being outhit 13-9 and the difference was not only errors but reaching base on eight Diamond walks and seven hit batters.
Talon Besendorfer, Ryan Sheets, and Blake Taylor each drove in three runs for the Eagles.
Diamond fell to 1-6 on the season entering their game Tuesday against Purdy.
