CLARINDA, Iowa — The Joplin Outlaws and the Clarinda A's split their Thursday night MINK League doubleheader at Clarinda Municipal Stadium, Joplin earning a 2-1 win and Clarinda blowing out the Outlaws run-rule style 10-0.

In the Outlaws win, Clarinda struck first with one run in the third, then Joplin scored one in the fourth and one in the fifth en route to the one-run victory.

Conner Burnett earned the win and Jacob Compton the save.

Burnett allowed the lone run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings and he struck out one and walked two. Meanwhile, Compton pitched 1 1/3 spotless innings and he fanned one.

Alex Wheeler and Blake Wynn collected five of the Outlaws' six hits with Wheeler responsible for three and Wynn two. Wheeler scored a run, drove in a run, worked a walk, and increased his batting average to .315.

Kaleb DeLaTorre scored Joplin's other run and worked a pair of walks.

Joseph Kinder had Joplin's other hit and other RBI.

The Outlaws managed to win despite being outhit 7-6 by the A's and despite being struck out seven times by Clarinda starter Jackson Tavel.

In the Clarinda win, the A's scored one in the first, three in the second, one in the third, and five in the fifth while the Outlaws scuffled with only a pair of hits against Clarinda starter Blake Collister.

Collister struck out five and walked one, and the Outlaws stranded all of two runners in the seven-inning contest.

Wynn and Zack Ehlen managed Joplin's only hits, both singles.

Meanwhile, all nine players in the A's lineup had at least one hit and six of the nine enjoyed multi-hit performances.

Gavin Merriman was the lone Joplin pitcher (among four) to emerge unscathed, as he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings with no hits or walks allowed. He struck out two.

Joplin moved to 9-17 in the MINK League.

Clarinda, the sole representative of the 'I' in MINK (which should be renamed MI), owns a storied history with Ozzie Smith, Von Hayes, Bud Black, Chuck Knoblauch, Andy Benes, Cal Eldred, and Scott Brosius all former A's and former MLB players. Hayes currently serves Clarinda as a coach.
