The Neosho Lady Wildcats fell behind 2-0 early on to Willard and ultimately fell short 3-2 in a Central Ozark Conference game Thursday.
Neosho managed single runs in the fourth and sixth, and Willard scored its third run in the top half of the sixth.
Kyla Daspit took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits over seven innings. She struck out five and walked one.
Maddie Carpenter had two hits, while Amber Shepeard, Taylor Baker, Kaitlyn Killion, and Daspit each had one of the other four Neosho hits. Lili Graue worked a pair of walks for the Lady Wildcats.
Baker, Carpenter, and Shepeard each doubled and Carpenter and Mikayla Long each picked up RBI.
In the fourth, with one down, Baker sparked Neosho’s first offensive with a double to left field. Baker advanced to third on a Long groundout to the pitcher and scored on a Carpenter single.
Shepeard hit a leadoff double in the sixth, then Shepeard advanced to third on a Baker groundout to second and scored on a Long sacrifice.
Carpenter hit a two-out double, but was stranded there after Sierra Jones lined out to first.
Neosho, 4-4 overall and 0-2 COC, returned to action Monday, weather permitting, on the road against former conference and district rival McDonald County, starting a week of road games with conference foes Carl Junction on Tuesday and Ozark on Thursday.
