ANDERSON — The McDonald County Lady Mustangs took an early 3-0 lead and managed to hold on for a 3-2 win Monday over their rival Neosho Wildcats.

Mac County scored two runs in the first and one in the second, and Neosho scored one in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Alexa Hopkins earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits over 6 2/3 innings and she struck out two and walked none.

Kyla Daspit took the loss and she surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings. She struck out three and walked one.

Taylor Baker finished with two hits to lead the Lady Wildcats and Megan Geller and Kaitlyn Killion each had one. Maddie Carpenter picked up Neosho’s lone RBI.

Rita Santillan, Chloe Colvin, Whitney Kinser, Hopkins, and Leslie Yousey each had one of the Lady Mustangs’ five hits, while Colvin, Kinser, and Yousey each drove in a run. Santillan and Hopkins mashed doubles for the lone extra-base hits of the contest.

Neosho dropped to 4-5 overall and the Lady Wildcats returned to action Tuesday against Central Ozark Conference foe Carl Junction.

Mac County ran its record to 6-0 before Tuesday’s Big 8 Conference bash against Seneca.
