PLEASANT HOPE — The Diamond Wildcats earned their second win in a row with a 46-6 victory Friday night over the Pleasant Hope Pirates on the Pirates' Homecoming.

Diamond racked up nearly 260 yards on the ground, seven different ball carriers enjoyed work, the Wildcats scored on their first four possessions with a different ball carrier finding the end zone each score, and Chad Stephens and Kolbe Jones especially had big nights against the Pirates.

Stephens gained 107 yards and scored three touchdowns on 13 carries and Jones added 81 yards and one touchdown on nine carries.

Last week in a win at home against Liberal, Austin Behler returned an interception for a touchdown.

On Friday night, Hunter Shallenburger returned an interception 64 yards for a score late in the first half.

Diamond forced Pleasant Hope into five turnovers, on another unpleasant Friday night this season for the winless Pirates.

Pleasant Hope lost its 17th consecutive game and the Pirates last picked up a win in the final game of the 2016 season.

The Wildcats have been very opportunistic in their victories this season against Ash Grove, Liberal, and Pleasant Hope.

Ash Grove, Liberal, and Pleasant Hope all have struggled this season, a combined 3-18 with Ash Grove's two wins and Liberal's one.

Diamond outscored those three opponents 82-12.

In the Wildcats' losses against Pierce City, Lighthouse Christian, Miller, and Marionville, they were outscored 181-24.

Diamond, 3-4 overall, returns to action on the road in Week 8 against Southwest Conference rival Sarcoxie. Sarcoxie improved to 4-3 overall with a 29-22 win over Marionville, a team the Wildcats lost to by a 40-0 score earlier this season.
