Jamie Holmes, a freshman infielder for the Crowder softball team, ended up having a pretty good first season.
Holmes was named to the 2010 Division I All-American 2nd team by the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) on the second-team infield.
This award is given based on statistics posted during the season.
“It feels good to be an All-American,” Holmes said. “It came as a surprise. I had a better year then I thought. I wanted to be an All-American, but I didn’t know if I would.”
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association recognized the top players in college softball to the Louisville Slugger Teams and Holmes was named to the Midwest Region first team. This award is given based on statistics and coach recommendation.
“Jamie had 95 hits with a .446 batting average this past season. She is the first player since the softball program was reinstated in 2006 to achieve All-American recognition” according to Crowder coach Lori Videmschek.
“I think it will be hard next year, if I got All-American as a freshman, I don’t want to not make it next year, so I will have to work harder next year,” Holmes said.
Holmes is the daughter of Terri and Jim “JC” Holmes.
