A handful of former Crowder College baseball players are off to good starts for their respective teams in various summer collegiate baseball leagues.
In Wausau, Wisc., the Woodchucks have Don Lisi in their rotation. The former Crowder player just finished his first year at Oklahoma State.
Lisi, from Rogers, Ark., was 1-0 with a 3.38 earned run average for the Cowboys. This summer, he is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA with the Woodchucks. His team, in the Northwoods League, is currently 11-7.
Sam Bates got a late start to his summer season due to the College World Series, but he is making up for lost time. Playing for the El Dorado, Kan., Broncos in the Jayhawks League, Bates is batting .348. That is good for the 13th best average in the league.
The All-American from Crowder – drafted by Florida earlier this month – will play at Arkansas next year.
In the Missouri-Iowa-Nebraska-Kansas League, five former Roughriders play for the Sedalia Bombers – coached by former Roughrider Judd Kindle.
Matty Johnson, another former All-American at Crowder, is hitting .431 for the Bombers. He played at Nebraska-Bellevue and recently finished his eligibility.
Kyle Zimmerman, who played at Ouachita Baptist this spring, is hitting .400 for Sedalia – which is 8-1 on the season.
Also on the roster is Kyle Hardy, who has a home run.
Pitching wise, San Francisco draft pick Mike Kickham has tossed three innings, while twin brother Dan, a Rockies’ draft pick, has thrown one inning.
Will McGinnis is hitting .265 for the Joplin Outlaws this summer. McGinnis, a Springdale, Ark. product,
played for the Roughriders in 2007-2008 before playing at Delta State the last two seasons.
Playing for the Crowder Dirtbags are players from the 2010 team in Kendall San Paolo, Carter Marion and Bubba McGaughy. Also on the roster is Missouri Southern’s C.J. Matthews, who played at Crowder for two seasons.
Colby Roberts is playing for the Butler, Pa., Blue Sox, in the Prospect League. Roberts, who will be a sophomore at Crowder, is hitting .188 in limited action, as he got a late start due to the Junior College World Series.
Mike Sisco is back home playing for the Lindsey and Associates American Legion baseball team in Fayetteville. Tyler Sawyer and Scott McFall are playing for the Arkansas Express showcase team.
