The Missouri Southern women (16-9, 14-7 MIAA) got out to a hot start and never trailed in the first half of Wednesday night’s 72-57 victory over the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks (7-18, 4-17 MIAA).
Despite opening a 14-point lead with 11:19 left to play in the first half, the Mavericks stifled Southern and held the Lions without a field goal for the final 4:08 of the stanza.
Seniors Jasmine Lovejoy and Afton Baldwin led the way for Southern in the first half with seven and six points, respectively.
Baldwin led all scorers with a career-high 20 points and Lovejoy added 17 for Southern. Senior LaTice Jones and junior Michelle Hedgecock led the way in rebounding with a game-high seven boards each. Jones would add eight points and Hedgecock five points.
The Lions will close out their regular season this Saturday as they play host to Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in a 1p.m. tilt from the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
