Seneca native and Missouri Southern senior softball player Megan Roark was named to the All-MIAA softball first-team as announced by the league office on Thursday.
Roark is batting .333 this season with a team leading 51 hits, 10 doubles and 37 RBI. She is also second on the team with five home runs. She has started all 51 games for the Lions at first base, outfield and designated player this season.
Roark, a four-year starter for Southern, earned second-team all-conference honors as a junior after batting .321 with five homers and 33 RBI. She was an honorable mention pick after a sophomore campaign that saw her hit .279 with 50 hits, 13 doubles and 31 RBI.
As a freshman, Roark started all 38 games for the Lions and hit .262 with four home runs and 22 RBI.
For her career, Roark is a .299 hitter, she has hit 15 home runs and driven in a total of 123 runs with at least two more games to go.
In high school, Roark was a four-year starter for coach Shally Lundien, a former MSSU softball great in her own right. Roark was an all-conference and all-district selection for the Lady Indians and lead Seneca to district and sectional titles. Ultimately, Seneca would finish second at the state championships in her senior year.
In 2011, Roark has helped lead the Lions to a 31-20 mark including a 14-8 record in MIAA play. That is a 12-win improvement from 2010 when Southern was 19-39-1 and 8-12 in the conference. The Lions are currently in Overland Park, Kan., getting ready to open up the MIAA Softball Championships on Friday. The No. 4 seed Lions will take on the No. 5 seed Northwest Missouri State at 1 p.m. immediately following the opening ceremonies.
Win or lose, MSSU will play a second game on Friday. The conference championship is a double-elimination tournament.
