The Crowder Dirtbags picked up two more wins — making it a five-game winning streak — with a pair of victories over two Kansas American Legion teams at Pittsburg’s JayCee Park this past weekend.
In the opening game, Crowder beat Pittsburg Post 64, 4-1. In its second game, Crowder beat Blue Valley West, 5-4, in eight innings.
Crowder (10-4) actually fell behind Pittsburg in the first inning 1-0. A single by Tyler Jeck and a sacrifice fly by Dylan Mjedle led to the run.
The Dirtbags, which split an earlier doubleheader against Pittsburg this summer, tied the game in the second inning. Fabian Oeschle roped a single to open the inning. A pickoff attempt at first base to get Oeschle was wild and went into right field and that allowed the former Crowder player to circle the bases.
Three hits in the fourth inning helped the Dirtbags take the lead. Travis Briggs (Garden County CC) singled and scored on Gabe Wyatt’s RBI double. Wyatt, a former Neosho High School and Missouri Southern player, doubled him home. Nick Wills (McDonald County/Ecclesia College) then singled to score Wyatt.
Carter Marion (Neosho/Crowder College) hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to account for the final run of the game.
Ehren Moreno earned the win, throwing a seven-inning two-hitter.
In game two, Crowder got down 4-0 in the second inning.
Jeff White had an RBI in the third inning, while a run scored on Marion’s hit in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Wills singled and scored on a passed ball. An error in the inning tied the game at 4-4.
In the eighth inning, White (Coffeyville CC) drove in the game-ending run with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.
The win went to Dakota Laufenberg (Texas Southern) after he tossed four innings of relief. He struck out six.
Kyle Coatney (Missouri Southern) started for Crowder.
