The Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association released its All-State baseball team this week and there are a few familiar names to local sports fans.
However, there were no players from the five area schools picked. Below is a recap of the All-State teams in the respective classes.
Class 4
The Central Ozark Conference “Large” Division had four players selected, three of those first-team selections. Webb City’s Tyler Burgess and Branson’s Mike Compton were honored as pitchers.
Branson’s Tee Helsel, a Missouri Southern signee, was named to the first-team infield. Teammate Tim Townsend was an honorable mention selection as infielder.
Parkview’s Spencer Johnson was a first-team infielder, wrapping up the selections from Southwest Missouri.
Class 3
Four players from the Big 8 Conference earned All-State recognition.
First-team honors went to Monett’s catcher Jake Smith. Three players were named honorable mention All-State in Carl Junction’s Jack Luton (infielder); Monett’s Spencer Witt (outfielder) and Mount Vernon’s Josh Engler (designated hitter/utility).
From the Central Ozark Conference “Small” Division, four players were tabbed. Logan-Rogersville’s Seth Conner, a draft pick by the Toronto Blue Jays, was named first-team All-State as an infielder. Springfield Catholic’s Calvin Roebuck and Logan-Rogersville’s Joe Young were both second-team outfielders. Bolivar’s Gage Jacobs was named as an honorable mention pitcher.
Crowder College signee Dustin Kremer, from Jefferson City Blair Oaks, was named to the second-team designated hitter/utility.
Class 2
There wasn’t much representation from Southwest Missouri. The only players remotely near the area were Stockton’s Gavin Kenney (first-team infielder); Stockton’s Robbie Ewing (first-team pitcher); Strafford’s Jared Yarberry (honorable mention infielder); Stockton’s Buck Walker (first-team outfielder); Strafford’s Rhet Parton (second-team outfielder) and Crane’s Levi Cook (second-team outfielder).
Class 1
Liberal’s Colton Selvey, a sophomore, was a first-team pitcher. Teammate Zach Lovell was a second-team outfielder. A third Liberal player, Guillermo Rojo, earned All-State honors as a designated hitter/utility player. Rojo was on the honorable mention list.
Crowder College signee Kory Verfurth, from Billings, was named as an honorable mention All-State selection as an infielder.
