Missouri Southern basketball coach has announced the signing of University of West Florida transfer Jose Davila to a national letter of intent to play basketball at Southern beginning with the 2010-11 season.
Davila is a 6-2, 190 pound guard originally from Puerto Rico that played his high school basketball at Oviedo High School in the suburbs of Orlando, Florida.
He was named to the 2008 Carbondale Holiday All-Tournament Team and led his team to the championship at the 2007 Great Florida Shootout and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Davila was voted team captain three times at Oviedo High School and averaged 15 points and seven assists per game.
Davila redshirted his freshman season at West Florida, a division II school in the highly competitive Gulf South Conference. This past season as a freshman he played in 25 games and started 15, averaging 24.8 minutes per game. He was fifth on the team in scoring at 7.2 ppg and also averaged 3.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds.
“We look forward to having Jose in our program,” Corn said. “He’s a young man that we’ve known about and been very high on since high school and are very excited to have him in our program. He’s a guard with good size and knowledge of the game and should be a contributor to our program over the next three years.”
