Missouri Southern women's basketball coach Maryann Mitts has announced the signing of Division I transfer Shatara Stone who will transfer to Southern from Arkansas State and begin play this November.
Stone is a 5-9 guard from Fort Smith, Arkansas where she played her high school basketball at Union Christian Academy.
At Union, she scored 1,329 points to finish as the all-time leading scorer for girls or boys basketball. She was a four-time All-Conference selection and also earned All-State, All-Area and Conference Player of the Year honors. Stone was selected to play in the 2009 Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game and averaged 24.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and five assists during her senior season. She shot 73 percent from the free throw line and 41 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
This past season at ASU, Stone was redshirted for the Red Wolves.
Stone is the daughter of Linda Chapman. She was a member of the National Honor Society and an honor roll student and also played volleyball and ran track at Union Christian
"One of the elements we felt was lacking on our roster this past season was the experience of the d-1 transfer," Mitts said. "Shatara not only brings that experience, but also has tremendous upside due to the fact that we have her all four years. Our immediate need was to increase our three-point shooting numbers and Shatara will help us accomplish that goal."
