Over the course of the last two days, the Diamond Lady Wildcats hit a four quarter stretch where scoring was a serious issue.

Friday, after leading Southwest 11-6 after one quarter, they scored just six points in the second half and lost, 52-22.

“Southwest really did a good job of mixing things up on defense,” Diamond girls’ coach Brian Brimacombe said. “We got behind a little bit and started playing one-on-one instead of doing what made us successful in the first quarter.”

In that loss, Megan Wilson led the Lady Wildcats with seven points, all in the first half. Stefani Thomas added six.

Saturday, the first half was the problem for Diamond. The Lady Wildcats trailed Jasper 15-10 at halftime, but outscored the Lady Eagles 27-12 out of the locker room and claimed a 37-27 victory to secure third place of the Thomas Jefferson Tournament.

“We played hard today,” Brimacombe said. “We had to have a lot of girls play a lot of minutes today (because of injuries).”

Mychael Strausbaugh led the way for Diamond Saturday with 12 points. Heather Wilson added 10.

Diamond only dressed eight girls for the contest against Jasper after a number of injuries sidelined players for an extended amount of time.

“We are fighting some adversity already,” Brimacombe said. “We won’t have some of these girls back until after the Christmas break.”

Other scorers for Diamond on Saturday were: Megan Wilson 7, Lauren Olsen 4, Cady Littlefield 2 and Maghen Dresslaer 2.

Diamond (2-1) will face Wheaton at home at 6 p.m Monday.
