While some fans were still sleeping in during their Christmas Break, East Newton was trading punches with Rogers-Heritage for the better part of their opening round game Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Unfortunately for the Lady Patriots, their offense hit the snooze button in the third quarter.
East Newton did not score a basket in the final 11 minutes of the game and Heritage won, 48-29 to start the Neosho Holiday Classic.
East Newton actually led a majority of the first half. In the third quarter, both teams turned up the intensity on defense. East Newton got a field goal with 3:35 remaining in the third quarter and they didn’t score again.
Kourtney Brewster finished with 11 points for the Lady Patriots to lead the way. Other scorers were Ellie Gore with eight, — all in the first quarter — Lindey Broyles with six and Hailey Heilig with four.
Heritage was led offensively by Savannah Ward with 19 points.
East Newton will face Waynesville at 9 a.m. in the loser’s bracket today. Heritage will take on McDonald County at 8:30 p.m.
