East Newton basketball falls to TJ

PIERCE CITY — East Newton picked up its first loss of the winter Thursday night in Pierce City.

Despite 23 points from Tucker Anderson, the Patriots lost to Thomas Jefferson, 54-49.

“We were up three at halftime and we did a lot of good things,” East Newton coach Barry Yocom said. “We obviously tried to contain (Thomas Jefferson star Alex) Oserowsky and he ended up with 19. He is a heck of a player. I was proud of the way our guys responded to some adversity tonight.”

Other scorers for East Newton were: Colby Thomas 8, Jaron McCully 7, John Hansen 6, Sam Swartz 3 and Clayton Harrell 2.

Saturday, East Newton will face Crane for third place at the Pierce City Tournament. Crane was defeated by Diamond, 50-40 Thursday night.

East Newton is now 1-1 on the season.
