McDonald County gets comeback win over East Newton

Tucker Anderson and the East Newton Patrtiots built a 32-15 lead at halftime Friday night at East Newton High School.

But Miguel Morales and the McDonald County Mustangs made sure it wouldn’t stick. Morales scored 23 points to lead three Mustangs in double figures and McDonald County got a big, comeback win over East Newton, 58-55.

In the third quarter, McDonald County outscored East Newton 17-9 to get within nine points. And in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs scored 26 points to steal a win.

Other scorers for McDonald County were: Jordan Wells 15, Chance Buttram 12, Drew Fickle 6 and Pablo Alvarez 2.

McDonald County (6-14) won’t be back in action until Friday when they host Nevada.

Anderson scored a game-high 31 points for East Newton (9-10) in the loss.

Other scorers for the Patriots were: Andrew Hightower 11, John Hansen 4, Clayton Harrell 3, Sam Swartz 2, Jaron McCully 2 and Colby Thomas 2.

The Patriots will try to even their record again on Tuesday when they host Seneca at 6 p.m.
